One in particular has been Stephen Etter, who teaches Corporate Finance and Financial Statement Analysis. Professor Etter is not only an engaging professor in the classroom but also a real resource to students outside of the classroom as they seek school, career, or life advice. I also have really enjoyed taking classes from Rob Chandra and Kellie McElhaney, both of whom have taught me things that have changed my perspectives far beyond the classroom.What did you enjoy most about your business school? The best part of Haas is how integrated the school is with the rest of UC Berkeley. As a result, I have had the opportunity to take advantage of many of the other world-class departments and professors at Cal, in addition to some amazing core and elective classes at Haas. I’ve taken fascinating classes ranging from International Human Rights to Data Science, in addition to a class taught by a Nobel Laureate in physics and a class taught by former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich.What is the biggest lesson you gained from studying business? The lessons I’ve learned from studying business go far beyond my ability to read a balance sheet or analyze Porter’s five forces. The biggest lessons I’ve gained are those that have changed my perspective, such as how to think about a company beyond its standard metrics or how to act as an ethically responsible and effective leader. Through my time at Haas, I have had professors and classmates who have shaped my view of not only the business world but also the world at large and how I can fit into both. These non-textbook lessons are amongst the most important things I have taken away from my business education.What advice would you give to a student looking to major in a business-related field? My advice to students considering a business major would be to keep an open mind about what they’re looking t o learn and what they can get out of a business degree. Although there may be some â€Å"standard† tracks or careers for a business student, I think there are many different ways to take advantage of a business education, so it is important to explore all courses and career fields. I’d also recommend that they get to know their professors, as many of my favorite moments as a business student have been hearing stories about the experiences of my professors!What has surprised you most about majoring in business? What has surprised me most about majoring in business is how hands-on and group-focused many of my classes are. The classes at Haas truly engage you with your classmates through the small class discussions and many group projects. This approach has allowed me to grow as both a teammate and a leader and also has given me the opportunity to get to know many of my classmates that I otherwise would not have had the chance to meet or work with.â€Å"If I didn’ t major in business, I would be majoring in or studying†¦Data science because data is everywhere.†Who most influenced your decision to pursue business in college? In my junior year of high school, Michael McNulty (or â€Å"Mac† as we called him), the faculty advisor for our sports journalism magazine, asked me what I wanted to do for a career. When I answered, in full honesty, that I had absolutely no idea, he replied by saying â€Å"I think you’ll run a big company one day, you’d be a terrific businesswoman.† Although a number of factors and experiences eventually led me to pursue business in college, this comment from one of my favorite teachers has always stuck with me as a sweet source of reassurance for my decision to study business.Which academic, extracurricular or personal achievement are you most proud of? During my freshman and sophomore years at UC Berkeley, I was a member of the Cal Women’s Rowing Team that won the NCAA Divis ion I National Championship in May 2016. I am most proud of being a part of the Women’s Rowing Team at Cal because I have never felt such overwhelming pride and joy as I did in being a part of an effort much bigger than myself. There is truly something special about being surrounded by a group of women all working together toward one common goal, day after day, sharing highs and lows in an extremely competitive environment, all while sacrificing personal glory for team achievements.Which classmate do you most admire? I’ve had a lot of fantastic classmates at Haas, but one that I have truly enjoyed having in my classes is Henry Bazakas. Henry is an extremely engaged and hard-working student who asks thoughtful questions and contributes interesting comments to class discussions. Henry also plays football at Cal, so I admire his ability to be such an engaged student while balancing his coursework with the demanding schedule of Division I athletics.Who would you most want to thank for your success? I’d like to thank my older brother for a lot of my success as I’ve always looked up to him and admired his incredible work ethic. His work ethic has allowed him to be immensely successful in his many endeavors, all the while remaining extremely humble. I’ve been very lucky to have my brother as a role model. Despite the fact that he went to our rival school Stanford (Go Bears!), I constantly strive to be a person as kind and hard-working as him.What are the top two items on your bucket list? Analysis Of Ronald Reagans Election Eve Speech - Free Essay Example

On November 3, 1980, Ronald Reagan delivered what is called the Election Eve Address to engage America by discussing the issues approaching America. Reagan provided answers for these problems and focused on the idea that America was once unique and superior because of their freedom and liberty. People praised America all over the world, striving to become it, and have watched it take a turn downhill, representing the idea: American Exceptionalism. Reagan focuses on this in his address and breaks up his speech into four key parts in order to present a clear perspective to the nation and leave the audience with something to think about. The first division of his address begins with the many disappointments both Reagan and the nations people hold with their government. Reagan responds to temporary liberalism and the issue of government intervention, while exercising individual freedom over federal power. Both Reagan and agreeing citizens, discussed their overall dissatisfaction with the federal government as the time of the 1980 election approached. They believed their dissatisfaction was caused by previous events, leaders, and matters building up. Reagan stated, Many of us are unhappy about our worsening economic problems, about the constant crisis atmosphere in our foreign policy, about our diminishing prestige around the globe, about the weakness in our economy and national security that jeopardizes world peace, about our lack of strong, straight-forward leadership (Reagan, p.1). He emphasizes the idea that things are still worsening if there is no change introduced and that the government contains too much contro l. Reagan focuses his attention to leaders from the past and his belief that they are the reason for the nations breakdown. The nation experienced a period of extreme inflation and this effected many people, in addition to the economy. Americas economy was suffering and many people were taken from their jobs, leading to a high unemployment rate and many bankrupt businesses. Reagans idea of this mention was to explain that he was here to help the United States through this downfall. He wanted to present the distressing matters in the economy to clearly show the nation they were facing a difficult time. He promises to bring the best leaders he can to government in order to improve the nation for the American people. Next Reagan focuses on his strong plan for reconstruction and turns his focus towards a hopeful and successful future. This is a great strategy for a presidential candidate and he begins to talk about America as you and me. Reagan introduces strategies to strengthen the nation and begins with limiting the federal governments spending, which contributes to lowering the citizens tax rates. This small improvement will provide many benefits for the people and will help with all aspects of the economy over time. Businesses will begin to get back up on their feet as saving money and investing become more relevant. He discusses that any politician could make these changes, yet he touches upon his past accomplishments and performance as the Governor of California to point out that he is an experienced man. He expresses his confidence in reform by stating, Thats why I am confident we can affect the reforms I have mentioned †reforms that will get government off our backs, out of our pock ets and up to the standards of decency and excellence envisioned by the founding fathers (Reagan, p. 2). The nations urgency for a strong and motivational leader could be fulfilled by Reagans goals to achieve peace and renew the nation. The dreams and aspirations that America particularly wanted are the ideas and solutions that Reagan could provide as their Republican candidate. Throughout the third subdivision, Reagan suggests the people and government will begin to unite more as a group which will facilitate the renewal of a strong economy. Reagan expresses desire for America if they unify, Together, tonight, let us say what so many long to hear: that America is still united, still strong, still compassionate, still clinging fast to the dream of peace and freedom, still willing to stand by those who are persecuted or alone (Reagan, p. 4). He illustrates that the nation is capable of uniting as one and living in harmony with one another. Reagan wants an enduring peace with all other nations without the interference of government. If the federal government and the citizens were to become unified, the safety of the American people would increase as an equilibrium is discovered. Reagan ends this division by bringing concern to the future and the children of America, he believes citizens will make the right choice to improve the vision of the future. In Reagans final subdivision, he travels back in time pointing out many of Americas successors and monuments remaining in remembrance of such great men. The Great men of the past are remembered in America and the people around the nation will always come back to these men who provided hope and freedom. Reagan states, These visitors to that city on the Potomac do not come as white or black, red or yellow; they are not Jews or Christians; conservatives or liberals; or Democrats or Republicans. They are Americans awed by what has gone before, proud of what for them is stilla shining city on a Hill (Reagan, p. 6). At this point all Americans are considered united no matter their different views because of everything the great men of Washington have offered. Reagans Election Eve speech demonstrates the sophistication, intelligence, and great judgement that Reagan beholds. He proposes his ideas for change while providing hope for the citizens and their children. As a presidential candidate, Reagan introduces the nations issues and the need for change in order for society to thrive with government and not be overpowered by them. He offers solutions to the problems that the United States is facing and does so with an ambition for confident change. Reagan concludes his speech with complementary arguments which authorize him to gain the votes of the audience and win their approval.

​Known for:  signing the Great Privilege and, by her marriage, bringing her dominions under Habsburg control Dates:  February 13, 1457 - March 27, 1482 About Mary of Burgundy The only child of Charles the Bold of Burgundy and Isabella of Bourbon, Mary of Burgundy became ruler of his lands after her fathers death in 1477. Louis XI of France attempted to force her to marry the Dauphin Charles, thus bringing under French control her lands, including the Netherlands, Franche-Comte, Artois, and Picardy (the Low Countries). Mary, however, did not want to marry Charles, who was 13 years younger than she was. In order to win support for her refusal among her own people, she signed the Great Privilege which returned significant control and rights to localities in the Netherlands. This agreement required the approval of the States to raise taxes, declare war or make peace. She signed this agreement on February 10, 1477. Mary of Burgundy had many other suitors, including Duke Clarence of England. Mary chose Maximilian, Archduke of Austria, of the Habsburg  family, who later became emperor Maximilian I. They married on August 18, 1477. As a result, her lands became part of the Habsburg empire. Mary and Maximilian had three children. Mary of Burgundy died in a fall from a horse on March 27, 1482. Their son Philip, later called Philip the Handsome, was held as virtually a prisoner until Maximilian freed him in 1492. Artois and Franche-Comte became his to rule; Burgundy and Picardy returned to French control. Philip, called Philip the Handsome, married Joanna, sometimes called Juana the Mad, heiress to Castile and Aragon, and thus Spain also joined the Habsburg empire. The daughter of Mary of Burgundy and Maximilian was Margaret of Austria, who served as governor of the Netherlands after her mothers death and before her nephew (the future Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor) was old enough to rule. A painter is known as the  Master of Mary of Burgundy  for an illuminated Book of Hours he created for Mary of Burgundy. 3. Linux 3.1 Introduction: The operating system Linux is an open source version of UNIX [6]. In 1992 [8] Linus Torvalds, who was a computer science student -at the University of Helsinki- [6], was the one who started this operating system. Linux is used on variety of hardware (e.g. on workstations, mid-and high-end servers and on gadgets), which makes it unique [6]. Linux keeps maintaining its position in the market due to the hard work of both employees and volunteers [6]. Previously, UNIX systems used batch jobs, which run a process until it is finished and then the next process will run [8]. What UNIX used is known as â€Å"non-preemptive scheduling† [8]. After years, preemptive scheduling was used to run processes in parallel by switching between them [8]. 3.2 Scheduling Technique: Linux scheduler is based on Time-Sharing Scheduling technique [7], which means â€Å"It can effectively schedule tasks that have strict timing requirements†. The CPU is divided into small sections, which allows many process to run simultaneously [7].
